Ad networks are focused on performance, and the way they deliver on performance is through data.  Sharing basic anonymous data about a browser (not PII) is more valuable to an ad network than being able to share a transparent site list. « Who a user is is becoming more important than where they are, » Mark Zagorski, CRO of Exelate recently told ClickZ. I couldn’t agree more.

Companies like Media6Degrees are looking at the social graph to target ads to friends of people they’ve categorized as valuable to an advertiser — and it works. As you might imagine, if you’re trying to reach avid cyclists, you might find that friends of theirs are also avid cyclists. And when looking at two avid cyclists who are not connected, finding people who are connected to both makes it highly likely that the link between the two is cycling.

La société Media6degrees, techno américaine de ciblage comportemental, vient de recruter son nouveau CEO, venu de Microsoft Adcenter. Leur méthodologie est, disons, assez particulière et probablement illégale sur le marché européen.
